Comments:
Sanyo eneloop are "ultra-low self-discharge" NiMH batteries, the latest technology in rechargeable batteries! They arrive ready charged for immediate use, just like a disposable battery. Once charged they hold their charge for long periods for example, 75% of the initial charge remains after three years. Sanyo eneloop batteries can be charged using any standard NiMH battery charger and can be recharged up to 1,500 times.

These Sanyo eneloop batteries are newly improved. For details see the bottom of this page.

The ultra high capacity 2000 mAh capacity of these rechargeable AA NiMH batteries gives super long run times! See below for higher capacity batteries - but then you will have to forego the amazing charge retention properties of these eneloop batteries.

Being Nickel Metal Hydride chemistry, you get memory free operation and, being cadmium free, eneloop is environmentally friendly. Not suffering from the 'memory effect' allows you to charge these 2000 mAh rechargeable AA NiMH batteries anytime you like - no more waiting until your AA batteries are completely discharged before being able to charge them up.

These Sanyo eneloop AA NiMH batteries are excellent for power intensive devices like digital cameras, MP3 Players, Game Boy consoles, CD Players, Global Position Systems and more. Can be used as a exact replacement for standard AA size batteries and NiCd rechargeable batteries.

Several companies have released similar "ultra-low self-discharge" NiMH batteries onto the market. For example, Uniross and Ansmann have a range of AA and AAA cells, branded as "Hybrio" and "maxE" respectively. Despite some of them boasting slightly higher capacities, they are based on identical Sanyo technology.

The Sanyo eneloop engineers have achieved a dramatic reduction in the self-discharge rate of NiMH with several new techniques, the most significant of which is called "super-lattice-alloy technology" which involves doping the positive electrode with oxides of heavy rare earth elements.

What is the difference between the "old" and the "new" improved eneloop?

  • An extra 500 charging cycles - instead of being rechargeable 1000 times, the new eneloop is even rechargeable up to 1500 times.
  • Improved self-dischcharge. Even though the self discharge of the old eneloop was already very impressive, you can store the new eneloop for 3 years and still it will retain 75% of its capacity.
  • You need a battery, which is reliable even when having cold temperatures? Before eneloop was suitable for temperatures as low as -10°C - now even until -20°C.
  • The new eneloop is even more environment-friendly as it is pre-charged with solar energy in Japan.
