The A26PX or PX26-A is a mercury-free replacement for the once popular Mercuric Oxide PX26, TR114R or E114 battery that was commonly used in cameras such as the Horseman 6x9 meter that takes a Mallory PX-26 and a Mallory PX-640 battery. Mercury cells such as the PX26 are now banned because of toxicity and environmental fears.

The A26PX or PX26-A cells produce 6.0 Volts, which is higher than the 5.6V produced by the original mercury cell. Most devices accommodate the small increase in voltage and function perfectly.

The Horseman 6x9 meter (Optical Exposure Computer) originally took a Mallory PX-26 and a Mallory PX-640 battery. The batteries for the Horseman TTL meter are described as the A-battery: Mallory No.PX-26 and the B-battery: Mallory No. Mallory PX-640. They operate for different light intensity ranges.

The TTL (through the lens) prisms for KIEV-80 and KIEV-88 produced till 1990 (the old style with on/off switch) originally used the Russian equivalent of a Mercuric Oxide PX26, TR114R or E114 and happily takes one of these A26PX or PX26-A batteries.

The A26PX or PX26-A is likely to be your only choice of battery replacement. Consider buying more than one.
